Until recently, the platform relied solely on WhatsApp for crisis conversations, which limited the user experience and lacked key support features.My task was to design a company-owned web chat from the ground up, incorporating special features to improve the patient journey, streamline the user experience, and increase engagement. This involved designing the entire product end-to-end—from research to final implementation. GOALS Improved Service Reducing amount of time the counselors spend per chatter, while not decreasing quality of care in terms of how the chatter feels. Interactive Tools Tools that allow the counselors to hand off for a more enriched counseling experience Independence + Flexibility Independence from third-party platforms like WhatsApp and gain greater flexibility in implementing features and enhancements. This involved analyzing the user’s interactions with the product, identifying pain points, and highlighting moments of delight. By visualizing the user's journey, I gained a holistic view of their needs, emotions, and challenges. Using insights from the journey map, I pinpointed specific areas where users faced friction or unmet needs. I categorized these into improvement opportunities and innovation gaps, ensuring a strategic focus on elements that could enhance the overall user experience. The results indicate&nbsp;high user approval and strong engagement, with some areas identified for further optimization. NPS Score&nbsp; 80A world-class rating, indicating strong user satisfaction and likelihood of recommendation. User Satisfaction 100%of respondents enjoyed the Webchat experience. Usability 100%found it easy to use, and 80% stated they would use it regularly. Feature Integration Users appreciated the smooth incorporation of videos, exercises, and the "Glücksthermometer" (Feeling Thermometer). Safety &amp; Accessibility 100%felt safe using the platform, and 90% agreed that most users would quickly learn how to navigate it. CONTROL Patients are more receptive to change when&nbsp;they feel like they are in the driver’s seat. understood intuitively. Published Page Online Page Magazine INTRO Without the ability to hear, learning how to speak is a challenge one can barely meet. Without it, people neither know how words should sound nor how they sound when they pronounce them, not to mention that there is no way of learning how to pronounce words intuitively. However many deaf people face that challenge and succeed. But no matter how hard they try it will not be possible to learn the tiny differences in pronouncing some words. So I started thinking of a method that could visualize those differences in a way everybody can understand. After a while I came up with the idea that there is no better way of showing how things are differently pronounced than by showing it with signs the people have already learned: The Latin Alphabet. In fact almost all the differences in pronounciation can be shown just with this limited amount of signs by replacing special letters with others. That is how this font was created. RESEARCH I started my inquiry of change with the following research question: ︎︎︎ How might we design a font that helps deaf people to know the differences in pronounciation of a letter in the context of a word? My research led me to send out questionniares and conduct interviews with deaf people and their friends and relatives. I further dove deep into the fundamentals of sign language and phonetic fonts. not confront the real problem that deaf people are facing, which is the missing sensibility for and acceptance of inequality. The European migrant crisis, also known as the refugee crisis, had just been at its peak and Germany is working hard on integrating the huge amount of refugees that had entered the country. As a designer, I wondered how I might be of help with the integration process and began inquiring about possible points of intervention within this system.&nbsp; ︎︎︎ How might we aid the inclusion of refugees in Germany? RESEARCH My research led me to talk to Eike Leidgens, a psychologist at the ︎︎︎Medizinische Flüchtlingshilfe Bochum, a place that offers psychotherapy to traumatized refugees. Through him I learned about the problem that due to lack of funding many traumatized refugees can’t get treatment. They try to bridge this problem through psychoeducation, which is help for self-help through educating refugees about trauma-related symptoms accompanied by practical ideas on how to deal with these. However, the education material that supplements these sessions is not translated into every language, which makes it useless most of the time. are effective at communicating because they have been learned or resemble a previously learned image that was stored in a person’s mind. In order to understand an image, it has to match a previously learned image and infer the meaning of it into the image at hand. This is also called top-down perception.&nbsp; The task at hand requires to develop an image that is intuitively understandable without knowing it yet, hence without previously stored imagery. Furthermore, the content that needs to be communicated consists of psychological phenomena that don’t have a visual gestalt per se. The app incorporates evidence-based therapeutic techniques, including cognitive-behavioral strategies, to provide users with a comprehensive toolkit for mood management. PROJECT GOALS Create a user-friendly mobile app that supports individuals with bipolar disorder in tracking and managing their mood.Integrate cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) principles into the app's design to empower users to identify and address mood-related challenges.Develop an engaging and supportive user experience to encourage regular use and long-term engagement.Prioritize user privacy and data security to maintain trust and compliance with healthcare regulations. We gathered insights into the needs, challenges, and preferences of individuals with bipolar disorder. KEY FINDINGS importance of mood tracking goal setting personalized support SPECIFIC DEMANDS OF BIPOLAR DISORDER Mood Sensitivity During manic phases, individuals may be more susceptible to sensory stimuli, so it's crucial to avoid design elements that could trigger or exacerbate their symptoms. Cognitive Variability Bipolar disorder often leads to significant cognitive variability between depressive and manic phases. Users may have different levels of concentration, memory, and cognitive functioning. Goal Flexibility Goals set during manic phases may not be realistic or achievable during depressive phases, and vice versa. Supportive and Positive Messaging Self-care and treatment adherence are vital aspects of managing bipolar disorder.&nbsp;Positive and supportive messaging helps users stay engaged and motivated in their mood management journey.User-Controlled Notifications Manic phases can lead to increased distractibility and impulsivity. Notifications can be overwhelming for users during manic phases when they may already have a high volume of thoughts and activities Personalization and Mood-Based Features Bipolar disorder is characterized by mood fluctuations, and different strategies may be more effective during different mood states. SYNTHESIS USER PERSONAS We created user personas based on our research to represent the diverse needs and preferences of our target audience. NEEDS Mood tracking features to record daily mood fluctuations and identify patterns.CBT-based exercises to challenge and reframe negative thought patterns.Goal-setting tools to establish and work towards maintaining mood stability. CHALLENGES Sarah struggles with consistency in mood management during manic and depressive episodes. NEEDS Clear and educational content explaining bipolar disorder and its management.Mood tracking to monitor and gain insights into their mood fluctuations.Access to a supportive community to connect with others who have similar experiences. CHALLENGES Alex is navigating the emotional and practical challenges of a new diagnosis. CHALLENGES Chris faces the challenge of supporting their partner effectively while maintaining their own well-being. They need an app that offers guidance for both the individual with bipolar disorder and the caregiver.
